Award-winning Flinders Ranges’ tourism operator Rawnsley Park Station has launched a special Flinders Weekend Walks package.
A shorter version of Rawnsley Park’s popular three and five-day guided walks, the weekend package is ideal for people wanting to experience the Flinders’ magnificent scenery and wildlife on foot, but who have limited time in the region.
Available on August 16 and 30 and September 27, the package includes two nights’ accommodation in a luxury eco-villa, dinner on Friday and Saturday night in the Woolshed Restaurant, guided walks over two days, breakfast, morning tea and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and late checkout on Sunday.
“Our aim is to provide a mixture of walks, taking in some of the most scenic areas of the Flinders,” says the owner of Rawnsley Park Station, Tony Smith.
“It’s a truly magical place that really opens up its secrets when you get off the beaten track. Walking offers the perfect way to get up close and personal with the wildlife which includes Red kangaroos, emus, euros and Wedge-tailed eagles.”
The walks will be led by the Station’s principal bushwalking guide and bushwalking author, Kym Tilbrook.
On Saturday, walkers will snake their way along the 9.2km Wilcolo Trail which offers magnificent panoramic views over the Flinders including the saw-tooth ramparts of Wilpena Pound. After the Wilcolo Trail, walkers will visit Brachina Gorge to look for Yellow-footed rock wallabies before a short walk in the Aroona Valley to see the ruins of the historic Hayward Homestead built in the 1850s.
Sunday will feature a climb to the top of the stunning 942m high Rawnsley Bluff which offers beautiful views of the distant Chace Range.
