Bringing in migrants a quick fix

CAROL FAULKNER: Business SA director of policy Rick Cairney’s response to South Australia’s ageing population is to bring in 200,000 migrants so that they too can age and become the next generation’s ageing population (SA unions want temporary visas scrapped, InDaily, July 17, 2013).

It’s a quick fix solution that perpetuates an endless cycle of unsustainable growth.

Isn’t it possible in the 21st century for our captains of industry to think outside the square and come up with a more enlightened approach?

It can’t be that hard to emulate countries who have hit on the right recipe for maintaining economic wealth with a stable population. Try Germany, Denmark and Sweden for starters. The sustainable solution is out there, for those who want to find it.
