BankSA Managing Director Jane Kittel said a leader plays a pivotal role in influencing an organisation’s safety culture.

Addressing the Self Insurers of SA annual conference last week, Ms Kittel said she actively championed work health and safety issues within the BankSA leadership team and the broader business at every opportunity.

“Work health and safety is high on our agenda and it’s embedded as a critical part of our culture, it’s a core value on a day to day basis, which goes beyond just regulatory compliance,” she said. “I have it as the first order of business at my key meetings to ensure it gets the right focus and to signal that it is a major priority area for me.

“We’re also seeing boards take a more proactive and probing approach towards work health and safety, which is encouraging organisations to review their reporting requirements to ensure they meet this extra scrutiny.

“All of which is positive because what we’re talking about is the right for people to enjoy a safe and secure working environment.”
