Music may form the soundtrack to our lives, but words paint the pictures. They are constantly evolving and mutating and with the advent of social media, we use words more than ever before. Word Adelaide is a dynamic new festival celebrating the power of words that will be held from August 15-18 this year.
Word Adelaide features a range of ticketed and free events. You’re invited to join one-off conversations with guests including Little Britain’s Matt Lucas, comedian Kitty Flanagan and musicians Leo Sayer, Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt and Taasha Coates. Best of all, you get to ask the questions.
If you love poetry, the raw energy of soapbox and the tradition of yarn spinning, competitive Scrabble, indigenous dreaming and language, then Word Adelaide is the place to be. The program also includes events in association with SALA and the State Library of South Australia, plus the biggest line up of hip hop ever to be assembled in Australia. Co-promoted by PJ Murton, the man who guided the Hilltop Hoods to international stardom, the Word Adelaide Freestyle MC Competition is the largest to ever be held in the southern hemisphere.
