Australia’s latest sporting hero Ashton Agar not only set records on the cricket field, but he also had a hand in the Nine Network achieving a new high as well.

Agar’s heroic 98 runs, which shattered several records including the highest score by a number 11 in Test history, was watched by 665,000 viewers – a record for Nine’s Gem channel.

The overnight Oz-TAM ratings surpassed the previous night’s record when the opening session of the first Test between England and Australia drew 627,000 viewers.

Nine says the Ashes figures are the highest ever for total people across five capital cities for a multi-channel in OzTAM ratings history.

The first session of Thursday night’s first Ashes Test drew 401,000 people on Fox Sports 2, giving one of cricket’s most memorable innings a combined total of more than a million viewers.

Gem’s Ashes rating on Thursday made it the 13th most-watched show for the evening, beating the likes of Border Security: International (612,000) and Law & Order (558,000).

The No.1 show was Nine News (1.334 million) followed by The Block Sky High (1.266 million) and Seven News (1.125 million).
