Questions for godless church

Jul 11, 2013, updated May 09, 2025

MARCIA EVANS: Before the atheists/agnostics set up a godless church (Godless congregation comes to the City of Churches, InDaily, July 10, 2013), perhaps they should check the meaning of the word church. There are several definitions, but they all refer to a worship of a ‘God’ or ‘Lord’ – even the ancient Greeks refer to worship.

Also, I assume that they will be setting up some aged care facilities, drop in centres and other welfare organisations that the churches currently run.

Finally, whilst I am the first to admit that the traditional church is far from perfect, I do love the way that this group wants all the feelings of going to Church without any beliefs or commitments. If they don’t have those, then it is not a church but a concert and the songs are not hymns, but just good songs to sing. What is their common thread and purpose?

Fundamentalists are not a good measure of the ‘church’ as you get them in all countries and religions. You will find that there are many people that attend ‘church’ on a regular basis are simply there for ordinary reasons.
