PETER GEBHARDT: An additional comment to today’s article (State Govt releases South Road study ‘overview’, InDaily, July 5, 2013) is that approximately 200 metres south of the expensive tram bridge over South Road is a school crossing. Between say 8.15am and 9.00am the non-stop use of these crossing lights causes a traffic bank-up that starts south of the Cross Road overpass and causes traffic to crawl for around 500 metres. For a million dollars a school children’s footbridge overpass could have been built, rather than the $150m spent on the others.
I, like many others, pray for school holidays to cut around five minutes off my trip.
Another problem is the large number of minor feeder roads into South Road near Castle Plaza. Surely if the Government was serious it could make some of these roads ‘no entry’ to South Road between 7.30am and 9.00 a.m.
