Business SA has renewed its call for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to clear the air and name an election date.
In the wake of Labor’s TV ads promising a positive dialogue with the business community Business SA said the best action would be to end the political games.
“Frankly the business community is sick and tired of ongoing political gamesmanship and want to see transparent leadership from the federal government.” Nigel McBride, CEO of Business SA, said. “It is now 12 days since Mr Rudd regained the leadership of the federal government which has been ample time for him to name the date.
“Business SA will continue to call upon the Prime Minister to name an election date because the ongoing uncertainty is damaging the business environment and the economy.”
McBride said confidence was taking a battering.
“Business confidence is already low and the longer it takes before we have an election will deter business investment which in turn impacts negatively on jobs in South Australia.
“We have welcomed Mr Rudd’s comments that he wants to work with business and reduce negativity.
“The best way for the Prime Minister to demonstrate his commitment to working with business and removing negativity is to show leadership and take the first step by calling an election for the earliest possible date.”
Labor’s launched a TV advertising campaign last night, promising and end to negative politics.
“I believe people want all of us to raise the standard,” Rudd says at the start of his 30 second message on Sunday.
“What I care about is whether your kids are getting better schools, whether people in the city and country have the same access to fast broadband,” he says in the ad.
“Whether your local hospital has a decent emergency department whether you have a strong economy and job security.”
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has also been talking up “positive plans for Australia”.
Business SA said it will continue to call for an election date to resolve the uncertainty and its negative impacts.
