A DVD giving voice to people living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder has been developed by a team of Flinders University researchers.
Asperger’s and Bullying: An Inclusive Educational Approach aims to educate school communities, including teachers, parents and students, about the complex needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), including Asperger’s syndrome.
The two-set DVD explores a range of issues designed to educate and stimulate discussion about ASD in schools, with topics in the first DVD including the impact of bullying, the importance of inclusive schooling and supporting parents and teachers, while the second DVD provides personal insights into living with ASD.
The resource was written, directed and produced by Flinders Screen Production coordinator Dr Alison Wotherspoon in collaboration with Flinders researchers Professor Phillip Slee (School of Education) and Associate Professor Verity Bottroff (Disability and Community Inclusion).
The DVD comes as a result of a five-year research project conducted by Flinders University in partnership with Autism SA, funded in part by the Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation.
