BILL WATERHOUSE: Fantastic! Days before the first Ashes Test, Aussie cricket has bravely sacked their coach replacing him with South Aussie Darren Lehmann. Coach and leader Mickey Arthur went after obvious team discipline problems, low morale , disharmony in the camp, consistent failures, lack of on field performance, and rumblings behind the scenes about not having a chance in the upcoming Ashes series.
Last week the Melbourne Football Club did the same, ironically replacing their leader with South Aussie Neil Craig mostly for the same reasons. The tantalising third event , albeit probably not with a South Aussie taking the helm, is possibly around the corner… A mob in disarray, lacking direction, rumblings in the background, disharmony, lack of faith in the game plan , and the ever present sense of having no chance of winning the next contest.
It just goes to show how often sport emulates real life, or in this case how real life should emulate sport. The two executed changes are probably futile and may have been enacted way too late in the piece. I wonder if the Labor Party will follow suit and similarly come up with a valid South Aussie replacement to heal them and provide some light at the end of the tunnel?
