Finalists for the 2013 Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence have been announced, with 13 South Australian chefs vying for title of best chef.
They include Camillo Crugnale, from last year’s Restaurant of the Year Assaggio Ristorante, and Public CBD’s Stewart Wesson, Adelaide 2012 Electrolux Australian Young Chef winner.
Other finalists for the top chef title are: Kristian Nesbitt, Ambient Restaurant; Philip Pope, National Wine Centre; Thomas Ng, Nu Thai Restaurant; Namit Mangal, Spice n Ice, Big S Steak & Seafood; Brian Richot, The Currant Shed; Ben Sommariva, The Kitchen Door @ Penny’s Hill; Quentin Whittle, The Stranded Store; Kane Pollard, The Topiary Café; Chris Wilson, The White House Adelaide Hills; Justin Markos, Utopia @ Waterfall Gully, and Eric Duval, Vino Ristorante.
Awards are presented across around 50 categories, ranging from Breakfast, Bakery Patisserie and Small Bar, to Café, Contemporary Australian, Family, Pizza, Function Centre and Tourism.
There is also an award for best new restaurant, with finalists comprising Ambient Restaurant, Au Pear, Bistro Dom on Waymouth Street, Brunelli, Café Ivy, Hentley Farm Restaurant, Lickerish Kitchen & Bar, Onyx Dessert Lounge, Public CBD, Ruby Red Flamingo, Sushi Train Unley Metro, The Curious Squire and The Loose Caboose.
Winners of each category will be announced at a gala dinner on August 5, along with the overall winners of Restaurant of the Year, Caterer of the Year and Hall of Fame awards.
