Australian Olympic medalist Taliqua Clancy and Paris Olympians Izac Carracher, Mark Nicolaidis, Thomas Hodges and Zachery Schubert will all be taking to the sand as part of the Australian team aiming for glory.

Among the 18 Australian athletes, 12 will make their World Championships debut, with South Australian fans in for a treat as five local athletes form part of the line-up during an action-packed 10 days of competition from November 14-23. The event kicks off with a green and gold super session, giving fans a chance to see an Aussie men’s team, Aussie women’s team and Olympic medalist in action on centre court.
“We’re excited to confirm a record nine Australian teams for the 2025 World Championships in Adelaide,” Volleyball Australia national performance director Craig Marshall says.
“This World Championships was already shaping up to be a historic moment for our sport in Australia, and now, with the most Australians selected to represent, there’s even more on the line.
“Representing your country is an honour that I know our athletes don’t take lightly, and the opportunity to do so on home soil in front of a home crowd, family and friends is one that they are all looking forward to.
“On behalf of Volleyball Australia, congratulations to the 18 athletes selected.”

It’s the first time ever the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships are coming to Asia or Oceania – and Adelaide is hosting the history-making action. Across five courts and 10 days, the world’s best athletes will battle for glory right on the banks of the River Torrens.
It’s more than sport – it’s a celebration of summer, culture and community in the heart of the city.
Can’t make it to the sand? Catch the action live and free on SBS Viceland, SBS On Demand, and across SBS digital platforms.

Think intensity. Think athleticism. Think the ultimate beach showdown.
More than 192 elite athletes from more than 50 nations will go head-to-head, with 48 men’s teams and 48 women’s teams chasing gold. Expect soaring spikes, impossible saves and nail-biting rallies as the world’s finest take to the sand.
Ten days. Five courts. Endless adrenaline. Every serve, dig and dive brings fans closer to the action.
The energy hits fever pitch on Friday, November 14, when Australia’s men’s and women’s teams face off against top international contenders under the lights.
Add an appearance by an Olympic medallist, and you’ve got an opening night designed to make Aussie fans roar – and inspire the next generation.
Beach volleyball isn’t just a sport – it’s a party on the sand. Expect DJs, music, crowd interaction and a festival atmosphere where noise is encouraged.
With 300,000 players across Australia and global participation surpassing soccer, it’s no wonder beach volleyball was one of the top five most-watched sports at the Paris Olympics.
It’s action, entertainment and energy rolled into one.

Adelaide’s riverside is set to shine. Centre Court at The Drive becomes the hub, while Pinky Flat transforms into the buzzing Central Beach District – complete with food stalls, live music, entertainment and family-friendly activities.
Grab a bite along the riverbank, then step onto the sand and cheer court side. It’s the ultimate blend of sport, culture and summer vibes.
And because this is Adelaide, you can expect the very best of South Australia’s flavour to be on show. Think local food trucks serving up festival favourites, SA wines poured by the glass, and craft beer right by the courts. Families can kick back on the riverbank while foodies soak up the state’s world-class produce – all within earshot of the action.
It’s not just about the matches – it’s a chance to experience the beach culture of Glenelg, the wine of the Limestone Coast, and the laid-back festival spirit Adelaide does best, all in one riverside precinct.
Want a front-row seat to all the action? Volleyball Australia is calling for 350+ volunteers to help deliver this global event. Whether you’re a student, a diehard volleyball fan or just love being part of something big, this is your chance.
