CityMag’s Blueprint edition is on streets now

Our latest print magazine, The Blueprint Edition, is on streets now, deep-diving into the plans drawn up for our city.

In the more than a decade that CityMag has been printing, we’ve always reflected on and shaped Adelaide’s city culture.

Postcode 5000 looks very different now than it did then, and in the past year especially, we’ve seen many of our usual haunts slated for new office and student accommodation towers.

On Grenfell Street, our beloved Crown & Anchor is now boarded up, with tradies occupying what used to be Roxie’s and Chateau Apollo.

But before they shut up shop (temporarily), photographer Jack Fenby captured the last Cranker Wednesday in all its glory, which you can find inside this edition.

A couple of blocks over in Hindmarsh Square, a looming student accommodation tower could potentially knock out retail and office hub the Block. It’s already claimed a victim: Carton Deli and its delightful mushroom katsu sando. But the way the city is morphing extends beyond the east end.

In North Adelaide, a golf course will get a revamp after the government introduced unprecedented legislation, flexing its power over the park lands.

In the foodie world, we’re seeing alcohol flowing less but at a higher quality, and diners wanting intimate experiences over volume.

The Adelaide City Council is planning for 50,000 people to live in the city by 2036, who are expected to sip the finest whiskey and play the course of Adelaide’s next-gen skyline.

Our lead graphic designer Jayde Vandborg has illustrated this spectacularly on the cover, depicting the blueprint our city is following with her signature panache that’s sophisticated yet playful.

So, with the lofty population goal, new infrastructure on the park lands and hospo trends changing as the cost of living bites, what blueprint is being crafted for our city?

And importantly, do those of us who live, work and play here like it? That’s what we’re asking in this edition of CityMag.

Beyond the thought-provokers, we’ve also done some rigorous personality analysis to judge you based on your favourite bar and shone the spotlight on stylish marketgoers.

We love bringing you the light and shade of the city, and this edition does that in spades.
