Prospect Road boasts an abundance of dining options.

Long a local favourite, Prospect Road is now firmly cementing its reputation as one of Adelaide’s most exciting dining destinations – a place to discover, or happily rediscover, especially when festival season rolls around.

On any given day, Prospect Road hums with the kind of energy that makes you want to wander, rather than rush. Tables spill onto footpaths, the smell of coffee and charcoal drifts through the air and there’s a palpable sense that this north-of-the-city strip has hit its stride.

What makes Prospect Road sing isn’t just the volume of venues, but their range. Within a few blocks, you can move from long-standing institutions that have fed generations to new openings shaping the next chapter of Adelaide hospitality. It’s a street that wears its diversity proudly, offering flavours from across the globe while maintaining a genuine, village-like feel.

Tucked just off the main drag, Café Komodo embodies Prospect’s hidden-gem appeal. A fixture of the area for more than 20 years, the café was saved from closure in June 2024 when regulars Mel Millard and her partner Amber Grosser stepped in. “We call it the ‘accidental café purchase’,” Mel says. “Having been regular customers over the years, we jumped to action and haven’t regretted a single moment.”

Komodo’s charm lies in its warmth and nostalgia. Leafy courtyards, retro furniture and a menu inspired by “recipes our mums and grandmas were familiar with” give the space a comforting, slightly quirky feel. “Mostly made from scratch, using local and seasonal ingredients,” Mel says, describing food that feels thoughtful without being precious.

Finding the café is part of the experience. “You need to find the orange arch and venture down the vine-covered lane to the bright orange doorway,” Mel says. Inside, three enclosed courtyards and intimate indoor spaces create what Mel calls “a sanctuary right in the middle” of a bustling main street.

That sense of community-driven hospitality also defines He Said She Said, which opened its Prospect Road location in September 2025. Founded in 2018 by Nasim Said and his wife Natasha, the family-run café has built its reputation on refined brunch, great coffee and consistency.

“Our focus is a refined brunch experience that champions fresh ingredients, bold flavours and thoughtful presentation, served in a relaxed, approachable setting where regulars feel like family,” Nasim says.

For Nasim, Prospect Road offered the ideal mix of energy and intimacy. “It’s central, vibrant and emerging as a strong foodie hub, while still maintaining a close-knit local feel,” he says.

This proximity to the city is one of Prospect Road’s secret weapons. During Adelaide’s festival season, the strip becomes a welcome alternative to the CBD crush – close enough to feel connected but relaxed enough to linger.

The menu at He Said She Said focuses on the freshest ingredients.

“Being close to the CBD allows us to attract new customers during Fringe, while still maintaining our strong local following,” Nasim says.

Beyond cafés, Prospect Road’s dining depth continues to expand. New favourite Li Beirut serves generous Lebanese fare, while the recently opened Prospect Hotel and Cellars blends pub familiarity with contemporary flair.

“The menu is contemporary pub dining using seasonal, locally sourced produce – classic dishes done well, with flexibility for casual meals or longer catch-ups,” says Sam Davidson, GM Strategy and Brand at Good Prospects Group.

A defining feature is the Cellars itself, which Davidson says is “central to the concept”, showcases a curated selection of premium wine, beer and spirits, with a strong focus on small-batch producers and regular tastings and events. The result is a venue that attracts locals while also drawing food and wine lovers from across Adelaide.

Prospect Hotel and Cellars is a new addition to the strip.

And, set to open in March, Panty on Prospect by Sprout Food Group promises to draw serious attention, bringing one of Adelaide’s most talked-about hospitality groups to the area.

As Prospect Road continues to evolve, that mix of resilience, creativity and community is what keeps diners coming back. It’s a dining destination that keeps finding new ways to surprise – and it’s only getting better.
