Clearview’s Evergreen Community Precinct at Enfield Memorial Park has a secret – it’s home to one of Adelaide’s freshest cafes.

It might not be the first place you’d think of going for a coffee but an Adelaide memorial park hosts one of Adelaide’s hidden cafe gems.

Serving fresh, exciting fare seven days a week, 1947 Coffee Co. sits within the Evergreen Community Precinct. Surrounded by lush grass and landscaped gardens, it’s the perfect spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a bit of serenity over coffee.

“When you get here, you don’t realise you’re in a cemetery,” head chef Liam O’Neil says. “We have such beautiful grounds and lovely, big, bright windows that let the sunshine stream through. If you’re looking for a peaceful environment, this is just lovely. It’s unlike any other cafe.”

Liam’s inspiration for the mouthwatering menu comes from years spent working alongside Maggie Beer and her daughters Ellie and Saskia in the Barossa Valley.

“That’s where I honed my craft,” he says. “I learned so much, and the amazing produce out there was unparalleled. It was a very blessed place to learn.”

Liam’s menu at 1947 Coffee Co. reflects the quality of that training. Hearty breakfasts, all-day brunches and long lunches guarantee there’s something for every taste.

“We offer classic cafe fare – Shakshuka, Brekkie Sando, smashed avo and eggs Benedict – you can’t go wrong with that.

“Then there’s the must-have French toast – ours is a spiced apple French toast, twice baked with a house-made lemon scented anglaise and textures of Granny Smith apples. That’s really popular.”

MUST-Have French Toast is a popular choice.

Granny Smith apples aren’t just a favourite ingredient for Liam – there’s also a family connection. “My grandma would always tell me the story, but I found a letter in some of her recipes  handed down to me when she passed. I’m about an eighth-generation descendant from the great Granny Smith,” he says.

It’s one of the reasons all of the mouthwatering dishes on the menu contain an element of green. The other is Liam’s nod to 1947 Coffee Co.’s location. “We’re part of the Evergreen Community Precinct, so I do try to add touches of green – fresh parsley, spring onions and our home-made Evergreen oil.”

The popularity of its home-made products inspired 1947 Coffee Co. to install its Providore range. “We try to feature items from our current menu available for guests to purchase, including home-made granola, Dukkah and strawberry jam” Liam says. “The range is constantly growing.”

The modern setting offers a calm, inviting vibe.

But it’s not just about the food – from hot and cold drinks to beer, cider, wines and spirits – iconic South Australian wines and 78 Degrees Gin from the Hay Valley, there’s something to quench every thirst.

Sustainability is also high on the list for the venue. All takeaway packaging is 100% compostable and there’s an on-site fast-charging EV station.

Fleurieu milk is on tap, too. “This further eliminates our plastic waste that would have otherwise gone to landfill,” Liam says. “The public can also purchase and fill their reusable, glass milk jars from our tap.”

As the precinct continues to grow, so too does 1947 Coffee Co. “We are working towards hosting private and community functions’,” Liam says. “We’re working on a community market as well, so there are plenty of reasons for people to visit.”
