This week, we make our way down to Waymouth Street to test out a place we’ve been seeing everywhere on our socials feed: Rosé Bagels.

It was an effort to make it into the west end to find our desired bagel spot for Lunch Hour this week (we’re east-end snobs here at CityMag).

I led the pack, and, to be honest, I’m not usually trusted as the sole Google Maps direction adviser (for good reason).

However, it led us to a random side alley off Waymouth Street – Cordwainers Lane.

“Are you sure we’re going the right way?” my colleague asks as I forge ahead.

“Ehhhh I think so,” I reply, with my head locked to my phone.

Not even a single step was taken off the Google Maps track we diligently followed until it told me to turn left.

And when we did, we found what we’d been looking for – Rosé Bagels. And instantly, we can tell, it was all worth it.

Rosé Bagels is located inside Thai restaurant Satang Waymouth, but it’s tucked away behind the Satang seating area with a separate entrance.

It’s a small venue and we assume the majority of the clientele come for takeaway, but we decide to dine in on this occasion.

After a quick stalk of Rosé Bagels’ Instagram, I was drawn to the #10: the Mexie along with a cappuccino to take away.

I was only sitting for a short space of time before my order was called out from behind the counter – the service was quick and the staff were attentive with my questions. This is a tick in my Lunch Hour books.

And it kept getting better: when I opened up the takeaway box, I saw my bagel sitting there – already cut and split in half – with a serve of prawn crackers on the side. What a treat!

My bagel consisted of pulled chicken, guacamole, tomato, mixed leaf, mayo and corn chips (a nice crunch to my otherwise regular fillings).

Any Mexican food lover knows this combo always hits, and today was no different – the corn chips added a nice crunch to what was otherwise a soft texture.

The only fault is that when I took my first few bites, the chicken and other fillings seemed to seep from the sides, and this got worse the more I ate. I’ve had my fair share of bagels in my time, and this is just the price you pay for a bread concoction with a circle in the middle (it could also be the fact that I’m uncoordinated and a notoriously messy eater).

Nonetheless, I was perfectly full, satisfied and eager to make the trip past the dingy side streets to return. I forked out $16, which I feel like is a fair price point given the size of the bagel.

This hidden spot is definitely worth the trip.
