Melbourne DJ Mizhap is bringing her turntablism workshop to Adelaide for the first time. The workshop, Fundamentals: A Turntablist’s Technique, will be held at Westside Mushies’ in Royal Park on Sunday, March 2.

Mizhap is a member of Restless Records Crew and has been DJing for 10 years, five of those as a turntablist. She says the workshop is about encouraging more women to take up this niche skill in a male-dominated industry. She aims to create a level playing field, remove ‘DJ gender’ from the conversation and is passionate about sharing her turntablism skills more widely and growing Australia’s turntablism community.

It’s the Melbourne-based crew’s first time running the workshop interstate and will cover the four main fundamentals of turntablism: mixing, scratching, beat juggling and trick mixing in a three-hour session. The session is split into two sessions with a 30-minute break in between.

Mizhap is also performing the night before (Saturday, March 1) at Westside Mushie’s Collision Courses event, which combines food, poetry and hip-hop. She’ll headline with Greeley and they’ll be supported by Social Change, a turntablist trick set by DJ Snair and more.
