The Sleeping Beauty

The Australian Ballet is bringing the grand revival of David McAllister’s The Sleeping Beauty to the Adelaide Festival Centre this winter. The production, which returns in 2025 to mark the 10th anniversary of its celebrated debut, will premiere in the Festival Theatre from July 22 to July 29.

Set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the opulent fairytale is one of The Australian Ballet’s most ambitious productions. The staging honours the original 19th-century choreography by Marius Petipa, elevated by lavish set and costume designs from the multi-award-winning Gabriela Tylesova that bring the grandeur of Louis XIV’s court to life.

The Australian Ballet’s artistic director David Hallberg says, “The Sleeping Beauty is an example of a timeless story told through the beauty of ballet. This beloved work, holds a cherished place in our company’s history and has been a returning favourite for dancers and audiences alike.”

“We’re thrilled to share its magic with a new generation of theatre goers,” David says. 

The Adelaide season kicks off a national tour that will then travel to Brisbane and Sydney.
