A concerto with surprising inspiration: motorsport! Written especially for Adelaide Symphony Orchestras Principal Clarinet Dean Newcomb, this new piece draws on his love of high-performance driving – expect rhythmic energy, vivid orchestral colour and music that moves with thrilling momentum.

It sits between two masterworks built for atmosphere. Copland’s Quiet City opens the night with something more intimate: plaintive trumpet and cor anglais solos catching those rare, suspended moments of stillness in a noisy world. There’s a melancholy to it that sneaks up on you.

Then Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony takes over. Sweeping strings, soaring melodies, deep currents of longing and memory. It’s one of those pieces that makes Adelaide Town Hall feel like it was built for exactly this moment.

The concert is a highlight of the ASOs Symphony Series which includes 8 programs at the Adelaide Town Hall throughout the year. The series opened in February to sold-out audiences and is the orchestras flagship offering.

Join the ASO live this April at Adelaide Town Hall as it all unfolds – with the full Orchestra taking the evening into top gear.
