Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation is holding its biggest fundraising event yet, the Biggest Men’s Meals and Mental Health Dinner held at Adelaide Oval on June 13.
The event, hosted by Jarrod Walsh and Jess Adamson, includes a three-course meal, five-hour drinks package, live music and a live auction. Guests can also participate in a mental health skills-building session.
Breakthrough CEO John Mannion says it’s “not a party”.
Its sole purpose is to promote early intervention and prevention in male suicide rates.” He adds that 40% of men haven’t spoken to anyone about their mental health, and “only 27 per cent of men struggling access professional services,” he says.
The evening also features a “Questions You Can’t Ask” segment with Tom Jonas and Rory Sloane, and a talk on imposter syndrome by Josh Van Cuylenburg from The Imperfects podcast.
The event is designed to create a safe and supportive space for men to engage in open conversations about mental health, with support from mental health professionals and assistance dogs from OPK9.
Last year’s inaugural event was attended by 600 people. This year’s fundraising goal is $250,000, which will go towards male suicide prevention research in partnership with Flinders University.
