The South Australian Museum is presenting its biennial exhibition, the 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize. The competition was established in 2002 and is named after the museum’s first curator, Frederick George Waterhouse. The prize recognises the long-running relationship between scientific research and the creative arts.
The exhibition features 74 finalists chosen from two categories, with 42 artists in the Open category and 32 in the Emerging Artist category. Visitors can see a variety of mediums including sculpture, weaving, jewellery, painting, illustration and digital pieces. The works provide a survey of natural science, mapping the intersection of nature and art through various textures and colours.
The 2026 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize is a significant fixture for the South Australian Museum. More information regarding the finalists and the history of the prize can be found on the museum website.
