CM: Where was the first gig you attended and who did you see?
The Vengaboys at the Entertainment Centre.
What’s your favourite way to consume music and why?
Live for sure. Nothing beats having the whole experience of the sound, the visuals and the atmosphere of a show.
What South Australian artists inspire you?
Eluize, Motez, Raccoon City, Empty Threats, San Dragan.
What is your favourite live music venue to play a gig at in Adelaide?
I love the Capri Theatre. It is like playing in your own version of The Shining and it has a sense of history and grandeur about it.
What is a new found love of yours?
I am obsessed with art made by Michael Carney. I discovered his work late last year and I can’t stay away from Washdog Studios to see what he is up to next.
Avalon Kane plays Waterside Workers Hall as part of New Found Sound at 10pm

Grace Vandals make indie-folk-rock inspired by Jeff Buckley and Patti Smith.
Where was the first gig you attended and who did you see?
Growing up, I used to watch my dad play bass with his metal bands in local pubs and venues around Adelaide. Outside of that, the first touring band I saw was Metallica at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with my dad in 2010, when I was nine years old.
What South Australian artists inspire you?
There are so many! To name a couple, Ella Ion is an artist whose sound I find to be so rich with heart and intimacy. She has found a special spot for her music between delicacy and grit, and it’s so inspiring to bear witness to it. The Genevieves have always been one of my favourite local bands to see live. Their live performance is so gripping and engaging from start to finish, and their music is overflowing with soul and musicality.
What is a newfound love of yours?
Vinyl listening bars like Adelaide’s Honeydripper or Waxflower in Melbourne have been a newfound love of mine when I’m looking for a high-energy listening environment. I find it a really cool way to discover new music, rather than relying on algorithmic suggestions all the time. It also gives me permission to pause everything and just listen to music, which I’m always grateful for.
Grace Vandals play 10 Gallon Hat as part of New Found Sound at 5pm

Answered by founding member and vocalist Kane Gabell. Sunsick Daisy is an indie-rock band that flirts with nostalgic, dreamy pop.
Where was the first gig you attended and who did you see?
The first gig I ever attended was Sweater Curse and Horror My Friend at Fowler’s Live (now known as Lion Arts Factory).
What’s your favourite way to consume music and why?
My favourite way to listen to music is either in a car on a drive or just by putting on some headphones and shutting my eyes while I listen.
What South Australian artists inspire you?
I’d say Aleksiah for her ability to push through the industry and get somewhere.
What is your favourite live music venue to play a gig at in Adelaide?
Can’t put it down to one, Hindley St Music Hall is a lot of fun, The Gov shows always have great crowds, and Lion Arts is always a fun time, especially to put on our own shows.
What is a newfound love of yours?
Sarah came back from the UK the other day and brought back these fender guitar knob magnets for my fridge that I think are mega. It looks cool, very nice. Fender, sponsor us please.
Sunsick Daisy plays McGregor & Young as part of New Found Sound at 8.10pm

Answered by guitarist and drummer Jack Medlyn. Swapmeet is an indie-rock band.
Where was the first gig you attended and who did you see?
I remember seeing Hilltop Hoods at the Clipsal as an impressionable six year old. My older brother was a huge fan though and I sort of ruined his night by crying to our dad to convince him to take us home mid-show. In my memory, the crowd was like 100,000 people, but it was probably just because I was so small.
What is your favourite live music venue to play a gig at in Adelaide?
For the last two years we have built a pretty great venue in Maxwell’s [Elphick, Swapmeet guitarist/drummer] backyard for New Year’s Eve, which was kind of the best part of both of those years. It’s so fun having our friends help to decorate the night. We used to love playing at Hotel Metro a lot, but haven’t had the chance in a while. Our favourite now is probably the Grace Emily.
What is a newfound love of yours?
A friend of mine showed me a German electronic musician called Skee Mask whose music is only on Bandcamp; discovering Skee has given me so much hope for the future and I don’t really know why. I feel super inspired by their devotion to the craft and experimental sensibilities. Also, the mushroom toastie from Smiley’s Tuckshop in the Central Market goes craaaazy.
Swapmeet play Pirate Life Brewery as part of New Found Sound at 8pm
